How Spending Time with Friends and Family Benefits all Aspects of Life

Spending time with friends and family during free time has the power to benefit people in other aspects of their life. For example, work or school. Spending time with people during your free time rather than spending it watching t.v, will be very beneficial for your social skills. When you go to school or work, talking and communicating with others will seem much easier. Plus, spending time with people who make you happy, can act as stress reliever and help you get away from all the stress that comes with school and work. My topic of spending time with family and friends can relate to every class I have because spending time with these people is a necessary way to relieve stress from what my classes bring me.

After a long day of school one of my favorite things to do is to go outside and play basketball with my little brother. That is if it’s warm out. If it’s a cold and snowy day we often make hot chocolate and simply just talk about our lives to relieve the stress of the day. When I struggle through a long week of school, I love spending Friday nights with my friends. Sometimes we go shopping, get ice cream, or have a movie night. I look forward to spending time with my friends on Friday’s because they lighten my mood if I had a difficult test or a hard paper to write that week. On Saturday’s I often go to my little cousins basketball. If you’re like me, and you have family that lives close by, I think it’s extremely important to spend as much time with them as possible. These relationships with your cousins, aunts, uncles, or grandparents have the power to greatly benefit all aspects of your life. Plus, pretty soon us seniors will be either going away to college or starting a career, so it’s important to spend as much time with your family while we are still able to. If you aren’t as close with your family, spending time with friends is just as good of a way to spend your free time. Even taking friends to run little errands with you like going to the store, can brighten your day completely. Taking people you enjoy being around to do little things with you can make boring everyday tasks much more enjoyable. Although Sunday’s are usually my homework day, I also try to find time to spend with my family. One of my family and I’s favorite things to do on Sundays is go to breakfast. We love getting an early start to the day and enjoying each other’s company. Some of our favorite places to eat are Le Peep in Longmont, or Red Rooster in Mead. I also enjoy ending the weekend with a trip to breakfast with my friends. Some of my favorite places to eat with my friends are Aunt Alice’s in Longmont, or the Tangerine in Longmont. Ending the weekend by getting to talk and spend time with people you love is always a perfect note to end on. Sometimes eating out gets expensive, so cooking breakfast together at home is always a great option. Cooking together makes the experience even more fun, and you are still able to have good conversation and enjoy each other after you are done cooking. Another great way to end your weekend is going on a hike or doing something active with friends or family. Being active with your friends or family is good for your health and your mental state. I’m sure everyone has a preference on something they like to do actively, but doing it with your friends and family will make it even more beneficial and enjoyable.

As I said before, spending time with friends and family is extremely important. Talking and doing things you enjoy with the people you love has the power to greatly benefit you mentally. After a long week of school or work, spending time with your favorite people is the perfect way to relieve your stress and be sure that you have a great weekend.

How Spending Time with Friends and Family Better Society

Spending time with family and friends can help to produce much needed social change. It is a very common opinion that the advancement of technology has had a negative impact on society, more specifically on teenagers. Many kids and teenagers would rather watch their favorite show, play their favorite video game, or spend time on social media then spend quality time with their family or friends. Not spending time with other people causes kids and teenagers to develop poor social skills. They become disconnected with the real world because of how consumed they are in their technology. Social media specifically causes many teenagers to become insecure of themselves because they develop the habit of comparing themselves to others. On the other hand, technology has done a lot of positive things for society. It has helped education to be more advanced, stimulated health problems, and helped developed technological leaders. Despite the great things technology has done for society, I still believe that the negatives outweigh the positives. I’m not saying that we should stop using technology or keep it for, advancing. I’m saying that as a society we should try to create a more healthy balance of how dependent and how much humans should be using technology.  Humans are becoming very dependent on technology. We need to find a healthy balance of depending on technology while also depending on our own brains. Spending more time with friends and family has the power to enhance this social change. If people start spending more time with their friends and family, it will become contagious. More and more people will see others enjoying each other and hopefully at one point it becomes a trend. If friends and families start to be more active, they will be spending less time on technology which is ultimately a positive thing. As a parent or child, you can encourage each other to go on hikes together,  especially because we have beautiful mountains here in Colorado. You can also play sports together, making something a competition can make being active a lot more enjoyable. You can also simply take your dogs on a walk with your friends or family. Since it’s winter, another great thing to do with your friends or family is going skiing, snowboarding, or sledding. During the cold weather you could even do things with friends or family indoors, without technology. You could bake, cook, or play games. There are endless things you can do without spending money or using technology.  Teenagers and students can still use technology at school and outside of school, they just shouldn’t let it consume their lives. There is more to life than spending all your time on social media or playing video games. Adults also struggle with spending too much time on social media. I have seen parents in public on their phones, not paying attention to their young children. Children learn from their parents, so to some extent, teenagers and kids being obsessed with their technology could be blamed on their parents. Parents need to learn to discipline their kids with their technology at a young age so they don’t become addicted in the future. I have babysat before, and I can see that it’s easy to let a kid play on their phone when they are acting up so they calm down, but we need to be more disciplined than this, because this is when bad habits form. Teens should also encourage each other to spend less time on social media. If you are a teenager and spending time with your friends, you can nicely tell them to put their phones down so you can enjoy each other’s company. If you have good friends, they will respect your opinion and what you believe is right. Overall, if everyone tries to spend less time on social media and technology and more time with friends and family, social will begin to change for the better.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
